Azure Cloud Engineer
If you want endless meetings, layers of approval and little engineering, that’s not us. If you want a small team building Azure properly with standards and people who enjoy Microsoft, apply now!
Azure Cloud Engineer
The role:
We’re looking for a Cloud Engineer who genuinely enjoys building, operating and continuously improving a deliberately well-designed Microsoft Azure platform.
This is a hands-on Azure engineering role with real ownership. You’ll design, modernize, secure and automate our cloud estate - ensuring it is reliable, observable, cost-efficient and engineered with care, then maintained over time. You won’t just deploy resources; you’ll care about how they behave as the platform matures.
Our Azure environment is intentionally designed rather than sprawling. The focus isn’t on starting from scratch or constant reinvention, but on disciplined engineering: applying sound architecture, governance and operational standards so the platform remains understandable, supportable and easy to evolve.
We want someone who takes pride in tidy subscriptions, clean architecture, sensible governance and dashboards that actually mean something. Someone who enjoys Microsoft technology, believes enterprise IT can be elegant regardless of scale, and is comfortable thinking big-picture while still caring deeply about the details.
If you’re naturally methodical, quietly obsessive about doing things properly, and motivated by building platforms that just work - we’d love to hear from you.
Key responsibilities:
Design, deploy and operate secure, scalable Azure infrastructure using well‑architected patterns that stand up over time
Own Azure networking including VNets, NSGs, Azure Firewall, WAF, Private Endpoints, Routing and Gateways - keeping it understandable, secure and predictable
Modernise legacy VM‑based workloads towards PaaS and platform services (Azure SQL MI, App Services, containers), reducing complexity and technical debt along the way
Run and continuously refine Azure Virtual Desktop, balancing user experience, reliability and cost efficiency
Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Bicep so environments are repeatable, reviewable and mundane in the best possible way
Build strong observability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights and KQL, with dashboards that tell a story and support good decisions
Strengthen security posture with Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud and where appropriate, Microsoft Sentinel, to address risks before they become incidents
Enable and support development teams by designing and operating the Azure platform foundations that underpin CI/CD and application delivery
Produce clear documentation, diagrams and runbooks that others can actually follow and not just admire
Stay current with Azure capabilities and enterprise IT practices, feeding practical improvements back into the platform rather than chasing preview features.
What we are looking for from you:
We’re looking for someone who takes real ownership of the platforms they run and enjoys working with Microsoft technology. You care about doing things properly - not for show, but because it makes systems superior over time.
You’ll likely recognize yourself in most of the following:
Methodical by nature, noticing inconsistencies others miss without needing to be prompted
Care about naming, structure and standards being followed properly
Take pride in documentation, observability and environments that are easy to understand
Comfortable balancing security, cost, reliability and usability
Happy working independently, but collaborative by default
Curious and committed to refining your craft over time
Take the work seriously, without taking yourself too seriously
If you get quiet satisfaction from clean architecture, predictable deployments and systems that just work, you’ll feel at home here.
You don’t need to meet every requirement. If you’re motivated, passionate, and think you’d be a great fit, we would love to hear from you. As an equal opportunities employer, we're committed to making our recruitment process inclusive, accessible, and welcoming for everyone. If you require any adjustments or accommodations to support you during the recruitment process, please let us know.
What you get in return:
Annual discretionary performance (company related) bonus
25 days annual leave, rising by one day each year to a maximum of 28 days
Day off on your birthday
Enhanced parental leave
Employer pension contribution
Employee Assistance Program
Volunteering leave
Designated learning and development time
