The Broomfield Story
Branch founded
The US office of what was then simply InsideJapan Tours was established by Mat Eccles in early 2010. From the companies’ inception in 2000 it had always had North American clients who amounted to about 9% of the total bookings. However, it was proving difficult to grow that number without having ‘boots on the ground’ which is why Alastair and Simon approached the already Boulder-based Mat with the crazy idea of setting up an office.
Initial growth
Initially based out of the spare room of Mat’s Louisville house, business quickly picked up and by January 2011 Mat had moved to a small and unassuming single room office above Pearl Street in downtown Boulder,. The intention had been to recruit for new team members to join in the spring of 2011 and continue this growth. The devastating events of March 11th 2011 and the subsequent fears over the Fukushima nuclear power plant put a sudden pause on business and hence the hiring. However, by late 2011 the recovery was in full swing, and in June 2012, Mat made his first hire.
In March 2016, after much work and anticipation the Boulder Office (of what was the InsideAsia Tours) moved to its much bigger, more beautiful and vibrant space at 1738 Pearl St, where it remained through 2021.
Broomfield Location
In early 2022, as Inside Travel Group, we made the exciting move to Broomfield, Colorado—a location that provides both centrality and practicality for our staff. Broomfield retains the allure of the stunning Rocky Mountains that Boulder had. We then moved to a more permanent location within Broomfield in 2023!
Our New Home
In July 2023, we moved again to a more permanent space in Broomfield and have grown to more than 30 staff members once again!
About Broomfield

The area is crisscrossed with trails, parks and open space which when combined with the abundant year-round sunshine is a dream for those into pursuits such as hiking, biking, running and photography.
As well as natural beauty, the front range is a haven for nature itself; deer, elk, bear, bobcat and mountain lion (to name a few) roam and stalk the surroundings and sometimes even stray into the streets!
Around 70,000 people call the city of Broomfield home, whilst many work in the city, others commute to the nearby centers of Boulder and Denver. Broomfield is home to a number of craft breweries, distilleries, and diverse dining.
